Leaving Sonoma fairly early .. our first stop today was Santa Rosa. Another very nice town with lots of statues of Peanuts, Lucy etc from the cartoon strip by Charles Shultz scattered through the town. Apparently he lived there for 40 yrs and died in 2000.
I had the first decent coffee since arriving at the Flying Goat cafe.

Before long we were heading to Ukiah. A quick stop into Walmart to grab a couple of basic things (like a knife and cheap t-shirt as its hot) and for the Barkers to look at this institution. (Mark to see the supermarket design & John to see how many Nestle coffee products were available.)

We had lots of laughs and were generally silly there before visiting a local organic Brewery which us Budgens had visited on our previous visit. It was just as we remembered with very consciously sourced products made into delicious meals.
Our main objective today was also to visit the Montgomery Woods State Park. Again because we had been there before and loved it. It turned out to be very disappointing. There were absolutely no signs at all and we just could not find it. I think because it has the tallest tree in the world they have stopped highlighting where it is to stop possible vandalism.
Though disappointed we figured there are many other redwood forests to see and crossed our fingers to see a couple tomorrow. Mark and John have been scouring maps and planning our route.

We are tonight in Fort Bragg. Not an interesting place... and wouldn't rush back here. Fortunately though we have found a great hotel right on the cliff overlooking the ocean. We have enjoyed a relaxed in house meal of nibbly food bought at the local supermarket. Tina even joined their mambers club so we could get a discount! It saved us nearly $10.. bargain!

These photos are the coast of Fort Bragg. Quite wonderfully wild. Our hotel was at the far end of the one with the buildings.

We were happy with the hotel. Also had a balcony over looking the ocean. This pic of the tree taken from our balcony.
One claim to fame Fort Bragg has is that one of its beaches was previously used as the local dump. Though they have cleaned it up much of the glass had broken up and is now part of the pebbles and sand on the shore. Mostly it is white glass with bits of green, brown and rare pieces of blue to be found. They now request we dont remove any from the beach... though I did think of you Sue!

I only just talked Mr Barker out of buying the shirt, alas he is still wanting to buy the American flag pole for his "Aussie" John flag to go on when he gets back to OZ!!!!
Also didn't mention that the hire car guy at the counter took one look at John and said that he didn't feel confident in giving the "Racing Car Driver"John acess. to the car.
Hi gang. Glad u r all safely on the road. Upload a photo of ur beast of a car! Looks like u r having lots of fun and actually finding decent places to eat in america, I didn't think it was possible. X ashleigh
Wow loved those trollies...did Tina need a rest for you to have that 'chair' trolly behind her.? That Hotel was a good choice, great views and looks so relaxing, not too much hassel around. But.did Mark and John HAVE to checkout the stores, I thought all that was put on the backburner. Unfortunate about the tallest tree but am sure there will be lots just as good en route. Expecting girls back from Binna Burra anytime today, very cold a.m. Just a bit of info....Perisher has had lots of snow, so enjoy the sun while you can kiddos. Much love Ramly
I`m glad looking at sea glass bought me to mind,I`d be sorely tempted to just kinda sorta pick up a bit,Then I`d like to think I`d put it back.
Sounds like a great trip so far.XX Sue
Yes...us girls are back and had a lovely time, lots of bushwalking and other activities, but relaxing too. Any exercise was negated by the fairly generous catering unfortunately!! G and X keen to see a snap of the car too. love M-M
