Bathroom Challenges

Most standed toilets in Japan offer a warmed seat and some kind of bidet facility. That is unless it is a very old squat style which are NO fun.
So we thought it time to include a toileting update from Japan. I am sure you have seen photos of Japanese toilets before but we are constantly offered new options. Aside from the normal front and back washing options there is also the option to play a flushing sound when you first enter so that others may not need to hear any noises coming from your cubicle.
This one did not have the sounds available but it did provide a warm air dryer for after washing.

Ah the choices we have!!!!

One other little bathroom story was when I used a public facility yesterday. I entered a cubicle that the door swung out. I had it all under control by grabbing the handle to firmly close the door as I stepped back into the cubicle. Alas the toilet pan was not far behind me and the back of my foot hit it stopping me from going back as far as I originally expected. However, I still managed to keep the door moving and pulled it firmly closed. I was more than a little shocked when the coat hook on the back of the door stopped a mere 5mm from the middle of my forehead. That could have been a nasty injury there!! Also when using this toilet in such a confined space my feet were half poking out under the door. What a laugh!

Interesting toilet options...was that a public loo in the snap of you having tea in the gardens? Just realized before that your reply to Emmeline appeared while i was typing mine. You in 'exotica' and me in Miami!!! Love Mar-Mary

Your photos are fantastic & I love all the different greens...reminiscent of the greens in Ireland...but different!! Shame you aren't seeing as much of the autumn colours as you had hoped but still a great experience nonetheless. We love to hear your toilet stories...remember London??
John is getting excited about seeing Emmeline on Tues morn...he's got all day off before he flies at 7ish tomorrow night.
Keep travelling safe & absorbing all those differences
Love Tina & John

In answer to M-M`s query.. nope that is not the public toilet... that is the cafe where they were preparing our snack/ tea. Note the lack of weather protection they have to deal with. It was being run by an older woman and who we think would be her grandson or around 20.

PS: to some people Miami is exotica.. you lucky thing you get to live there!

Hi ! I have wonderful memories of a couple of days in the Japanese Garden at Toowoomba University and seeing your pics, I was already relaxing! So beautiful, so tidy, so clean, so calm!

When you were plannig this trip, did you have most places recommended to you or did you just create your itinerary from your own investigations?

It's great for us so far!!

What...no redbacks ?....So glad they have signs to show you how to sit etc, what happens if you push the wrong button...you would be flushed before you started. That would be me. Wonderful pics and good to see you both in them sometimes. You have been soo well cared for by the locals, and spoilt, it will be hard to come home. Keep enjoying. Was exhausted yesterday after having intensive ear tests, forget I am , not old, just more senior.! Much love
